If you are getting into the hobby there is always a chance you may not like it after you try it for a while. Therefore currently there is a machine on the market which provides the entry level hobbyist to sample most of the advanced features available on higher end units as well as providing a turn on and go easy interface for the beginner in the hobby while still providing acceptable depth and performance. It is very popular and widely acclaimed and manufactured locally in Texas by Garrett. I am talking about the ACE 250. It is the only entry level machine that I know of that provides a wide variety of advanced features normally only available on higher end machines such as notch discrimination. The price is reasonable $199 currently and available in stock locally and on the internet and most dealers provide added freebies on your purchase as well. Also if you decide you don't like the hobby you can recoup most of your initial investment by reselling the machine for around $150 since it is so popular! Hope this helps and Happy Hunitng :-)
